Actually, I wanted Ron to be a bit mistrustful towards the ferret, but not entirely cruel - I can totally imagine he knew what he was doing when he disclosed his own weakness (and not his proudest moment) in front of Draco. No one ever gives his smartness a well-deserved credit! :)
